The local Department of Equality has announced a week of events to mark International Women’s Day this week aimed at raising awareness of inequalities, violence and machismo.
Tuesday March 7:
Talk on Equality at the local High School.
7pm Inauguration of an exhibition on Women Writers in the Casa de la Cultura preceded by a speech by Gloria Alarcón of the UMU.
Wednesday March 8
International Women’s Day
10am Special programme on Radio Calasparra, with listeners contributions via 968746335.
12 midday Rally in the Plaza de la Corredera in favour of Yoparo8M, a social movement which protests against inequalities in conditions and pay and domestic violence, in line with 40 other countries.
6pm Prizes for the Working Women competition aimed at 5th and 6th year primary pupils.
Friday March 10
1pm Rally in the Plaza de la Corredera, “Women and Laughter Therapy.”
8pm Theatre, “The Strongest,” Municipal Auditorium.
Sunday March 12
Grand Womens’ Fiesta in the Plaza de la Corredera. A wall of equality will be inaugurated and there will be activities for children.
7pm Homage to Women by the Heads of the Departments of Equality and the Elderly in the OAPs Club, Calasparra.
