The Government will repeal the so called “sun tax” and introduce measures to knock down the barriers for households which generate their own clean electricity.
Households which decide to opt for solar panels to produce their own electricity will find life easier and cheaper, following the imminent approval of the Government´s Legal Decree, which abolishes the standing charge for connecting to the national grid and imposes taxes on electricity generated.
The move will also remove restrictions “which have reduced incentives and made it difficult” for domestic customers wanting to install solar panels and recognises the right to produce “shared electricity.
Once approved the Legal Decree will abolish the tax on electricity produced (7%); as well as the taxes on the hydrocarbons for the production of electricity (4%).
It will also be illegal to disconnect the electricity supply from homes in receipt of “social vouchers” (bono social) and live with a child of under 16 years, a person who is 33% disabled or more, or who depends on social services.
It also increases the threshold to qualify for social vouchers to 15,039 euros income annually (households without children); 18,798 (one child); and 22,558 (three children), as well as victims of domestic violence or of terrorism.
