The first full Town Hall Council meeting of the new political term was marked by tension between opposition groups and the ruling PSOE, during which the leader of the Ciudadanos party was expelled followed a heated exchange with the Mayor, Jose Velez. His political colleagues also left the chamber.
The Meeting unanimously approved a motion proposed by Calasparra Viva to restore and protect the iron bridges in Calasparra.
Later in the meeting Antonio Salvador Abril of the Partido Popular officially took his seat, substituting Miguel Martínez Alcázar.
The ruling PSOE and IU voted to approve another paid councilor: Teresa García with responsibility for Culture and Patrimony and Education, Commerce and the Elderly.
All the opposition parties opposed the motion, which was passed by a simple majority.
During the question and answer session the poor state of pavements in Calasparra was raised and the Mayor announced the paving stones would be replaced by cobblestones as soon as possible.
