The General Council of Nursing has recommended the use of FFP2 masks in enclosed spaces where ventilation is poor and there are crowds.
The Council are also appealing to the Government to fix the maximum price and lower IVA on these masks.
The FFP2 masks are not considered necessary in open air spaces and enclosed spaces with good ventilation where social distancing of two metres is possible. However, they are recommended for public transport and supermarkets where ventilation is poor and there are a lot of people.
Unless otherwise indicated these masks are not reusable or washable and are effective for approximately four hours.
Masks with valves are not recommended for protection during the Covid-19 epidemic as the valves allow contaminated particles entry.
