Renovations at the Casa Piñero in Calle Mayor, which is subject to a BIC protection order, are finished and it has been transformed into a space of “public interest.”
The building, which houses its first exhibition this week, was officially inaugurated by the Director of Industrial Culture, Marta López-Briones, the Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez and the Head of the local Department of Culture, Teresa García.
The emblematic building is in the old town forms part of the patrimony of Calasparra.
José Vélez, said this new exhibition space was at the disposal of the residents as a link between creators and the public. “ I am proud to announce today that thanks to this new space it will be possible to hold exhibitions and activities that we have only been to contemplate on rare occasions,”he said.
The first exhibition features work by 30 local artists as well as 60 drawings in pen and ink and pencil.
The Casa Piñero is now property of the Town Hall and registered as “of historic interest.” It was built in 1920 and was the home and workshop of the celebrated Calasparrian architect, Emilio Perez Piñero.
It is divided into three floors and an underbuild. The main entrance is in Calle Mayor and there are two further entrances in the square behind it. Some 242,000€ has been invested in its restoration; 42,000€ from the Town Hall and the rest from the Leader Funds.
