MONITORING WATER QUALITY ENTERING MAR MENOR

The Segura Water Boardc, (CHS) have invested almost 700,00 euros to expand the automatic network monitoring the quality of surface and subterrenean watet entering the Mar Menor.
The funds, allocated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and financed by the EU, are one of the measures being taken to protect the sea from periods of high contamination which threaten its future.
Some 14 automatic warning stations have been installed on the Segura river, which link into four more, including those monitoring subterrenean water from the Alfonso XIII reservoir, the Quipar river and the Argos river in Calasparra.
The data gathered at the stations is sent by satelite or 3G every five minutes to the Control Centrre in the Segura basin where experts are able to detect the dumping or spillage of waste, the exact locality and the cause.
