The British pensioner, missing since 9am yesterday, Monday, was finally found this evening just half an hour before the search was due to be called off due to lack of light.
Alan, aged 72 years, resident of the Tierra del Sol who suffers from alzheimers, is reportedly “well” but dehyrdrated, deorientated and suffering from hyperthermia and bruises, and has been admitted to hospital in Caravaca. He was found lying by the side of a road in the Esparragal area of Calasparra at about 5.30pm this evening, Tuesday.
This morning the Guardia Civil helicopter searched the area around Tierra de Sol to no avail. Later, after a reported sighting, the search moved to the Mula Road and Valentin.
At midday the search, with British resident volunteers, local police. Guardia Civil and the Civil Protection moved to the Esparragal/La Florida area where several sightings were reported by local residents.
By 3.30pm the local Red Cross volunteers had joined the search party which combed the mountains and woods of the Esparragal area, searching all the out buildings and residential properties but with no sign of Alan.
Just as the light was beginning to fail and the search was due to be called off due to lack of light the news was relayed from one part of the search party to another that Alan had been found.
It was an emotional moment for friends and family who rushed to the scene where Alan was recovered by an ambulance, that had been on standby, and for many members of the search party, who were beginning to give up hope of finding Alan before the search was officially called off for the night.
