The Medieval Market in Calsparra from June 5 to 7 forms part of the celebrations to mark the donation of the town to the Order of St Juan of Jerusalem.
Multiple stalls will tint the Plaza de la Corredera and connecting streets with an historic ambient transforming the town centre into an authentic medieval scene with standards, themed decorations and wooden stalls to evoke the Middle Ages.
The market reunites numerous artisans who will offer products crafted traditionally in materials such as ceramics, leather plus jewellery, textiles and ornaments. Moreover, visitors can enjoy live demonstrations of ancient and ancestral techniques of antique crafts and trades.
The annual Commemoration of the Donation of the Villa of Calasparra to the Order of the Hospital of San Juan de Jerusalén took place on June 9, 1289, when King Sancho IV granted the Castle and its terminals to the Order for “juro de heredad” (in perpetuity). Since then this episode has formed part of the local historic memory that includes the Medieval Market and the Medieval Costume Parade.
