On the day when Pedro Sanchez, leader of the national Socialist Party here in Spain, opened the door on a coalition government with him as President, our local Mayor caught him at FITUR, the tourist show in Madrid, and presented him with a sack of Calasparra rice.
The soon to be President of Spain, albeit of the coalition government of consensus, Pedro Sanchez, was just one of the celebrities who attracted the attention of our mayor, José Vélez, who is currently representing the interests of Calasparra at FITUR.
He was joined by the mountaineer, Miguel Ángel García Gallego, who presented a promotional video on the Puerto Cave and later there will be a special presentation of local cheeses from Queserías Villa Vieja and Tío Resti.
However, the star of the show so far has been our local rice as the mayor presented gift packs to the Queen of Spain; the acting Minister of Tourism; the acting Minister of Employment; the comedians, Juan Antonio Muñoz de Cruz and Raya; the winner of the Spanish versión of MasterChef, Carlos Maldonado; the actor Máximo Valverde; and the Bishop José Manuel Lorca Planes, amongst others.
