The
Secretary of State for the Environment has assured the Mayor of Calasparra,
Jose Velez, that the governing party, the PSOE, support the Town Hall´s stance
against fracking.
In a meeting this week with the Mayor, the Minister, Hugo Morán, clarified that
the recent positive environmental report issued for the Leo Project in the
Calasparra area was for investigations with lorries, which would pound the
ground and record the echoes using microphones. This process carried no
environmental risk.
Moreover, the Minister gave assurances to Jose Velez that the PSOE were opposed
to the process of fracking because the party considers that natural resources
are one of the competitive resources nationally, which must be protected from
aggressive and unsustainable exploitation.
During the meeting the Mayor of Calasparra told the Minister: Fracking will
never be allowed under any circumstances in Calasparra.”
