Acting in his capacity as regional deputy the Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro,
criticised the reduction of basic social allowances at the full meeting of the regional
assembly.
He said central governmet cuts had left local authorities struggling to provide basic social services to their residents nd added that the policy of cuts and reductions had “led to the dismantling of basic public services making the situation of many residents much worse.”
According to the Mayor there has been a 30 million euro cut to the teleassistancia service; 1.3 million to the programme for disabled people; 2 million for children who have been abused; with a total cut of a total of 30 millions for this year, 2013, some 40% less than less year. Funding which totalled 2,554,963 euros last year has been reduced to 809.737 euros this year.
