These are difficult times and solidarity was never more important than now. These were the words of Jesus Navarro, the Mayor of Calasparra, as he threw the weight of the Town Hall behind the Red Cross Christmas Appeal.
The national Red Cross is organising a Solidarity March of the Kings which will criss cross the region of Murcia bringing Christmas cheer, gifts and basic foostuffs to families who have been affected by the financial crisis. The March will pass through the town on Friday at around 10 am when there will be an official reception in the Plaza de la Corredera.
The local Red Cross is appealing for toys, non perishable foodstuffs, basic supplies and clothes, all of which, according to Francisco Morcillo, local coordinator, “Will go to families in Calasparra or be distributed through municipal programmes.”
There are various collection points: the main Red Cross Offices near the Guardia Civil: the information point in the OAPs Club; and a collection point this Friday in the town centre. A 5 euro donation can also be made via the Red Cross Account at CajaMurcia.
