MAXIMUM ALERT BUT NO MAJOR INCIDENTS

Minor mudslides on the outskirts of town, basements flooded and Avenida Juan Ramón Jiménez temporarily closed: these were the worst incidents in Calasparra when 108 litres of rain fell per square metre.
On Friday 65 square metres of rain turned the streets into rivers, flooding some drains particularly in Avenida Juan Ramón Jiménez, near the Rasante, which had to be closed temporarily to traffic.
At lunchtime the Mayor of Calasparra had declared the town on “maximum alert” but compared to other places in the region such as Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras the torrential rains passed without any major incidents. However, local police were inundated with calls from residents reported flooded basements during the early afternoon.
