Some 70% of teachers and 80% of pupils joined the Strike yesterday (Tuesday) against central government cuts to the education budget.
Regionally 330,000 teachers and pupils joined the “empty schoolrooms” initiative which was organized nationally by the Platform for the Defence of Public Schools.
Here in Calasparra the main protest took place in front of the Town Hall at midday in the Plaza de la Corredera when more than 100 teachers, pupils and parents demonstrated with placards.
The Platform is protesting against the increase in the size of classes and the reduction of support and teaching staff due to be introduced in the next school term.
