MAR MENOR HAS ITS OWN BILL OF RIGHTS

The Mar Menor, from today October 3, has its own Bill of Rights which guarantees the right to live, to have damage repaired and to recuperate.
The State Bulletin (BOE) has published the law, which gives the sea its own legal personality. Apart from the Bill of Rights, in respect of the Law of Ecology, it gives the right to sue and sanction anyone, businesses or entities which attack its ecosystem.
This new legal status, proposed by the Chair of Human and Natural Rights, in which Amnesty International and Ecologists in Action form part, is based on experiences in South America and Oceania where rivers and lakes, also threatened by production and the consumer society, have received this legal recognition, which aims to effectively protect their great ecological value.
