The local police are going to check the documentation of “gas inspectors” currently operating on the Tierra del Sol urbanization following a call from the NEXOnr webpage.
A webpage reader contacted us this morning to report that “gas inspectors” were cold calling on residents on the urbanization to “inspect” gas pipes and the regulator. The cost of the inspection and replacement pipes and regulator is 50€ plus IVA: a total of 59€.
As there are phoney gas inspectors operating in Malaga and Torrevieja, where Respol has issued an official warning tag on bottles of butane gas, Nexonr has contacted the local police.
The local police will send an officer out to the urbanization to check the documentation of these “gas inspectors” and asks anyone answering the door to an «inspector» without documentation to ring the police immediately.
Apparently if an inspection is due locally the company will contact the local police for permission to operate in the area. The local police have confirmed that no such permission has been requested. In the meantime the advice is that these current inspections are not obligatory and residents are not required to allow cold callers to enter their properties.
We reproduce the warning tag sent to customers in Torrevieja by the local gas supplier. It reads: «Protect yourself from fake inspectors and fraudulent reviews. Ring (gives local gas supplier telephone number) before letting a stranger into your home and stay calm.»
However, our advice from the local police is that, although various companies are licenced to carry out gas inspections, official gas inspectors must show home owners a certificate from the installation company, the gas fitter licence, personal ID and public liability insurance.
Although gas inspections are required every five years and it is the user´s obligation to arrange the inspection, the customer can choose any authorized company they like and should compare rates, which can range between €40 and €80. Visits can therefore be prearranged with the supplier of your choice.
