Ecotourists and walkers took part in the last organised walking route around the rice fields of Calasparra this weekend.
The route began from Molino (Mill) de Juan Haro, historically called “Cortijo del Puerto”, where the local brands of the “Bomba” rice are produced, and continued along the road to the station and onto to the El Bayo area.
Almost the entire route passes along the banks of the river Segura and takes in the Presa (dam) of El Bayo and the ancient irrigation channels of Rotas, Berberín and El Esparragal which have watered the rice crop since the 16th century.
