Everyone in the Murcia region is being asked to switch off all their lights and electrical appliances at 7pm on December 17 to support the protest against electricity tariffs which are the highest in Europe.
The Murcian Association of Consumers and Service Users, (Consumur), are joining the protest, organised by Facua-Consumers in Action, against abuses in the sector which has seen tariffs rise by 72% over the past 10 years.
The protest aims to “call on the Government to take action on the continuous frauds commmitted in the electricity sector,” and the “closure of the revolving door
where senior national politicians end up as consultants at energy companies and viceversa.”
The consumer associations are also calling for a prohibition on cutting off domestic electricity supplies during the winter: intervention against the massive fraud by electricity companies which make misleading claims to persuade consumers to change companies; a new regulated tariff which reflects the real cost of producing electricity, and an audit of the historic “deficit of the tariff.”
Consumur is calling on all consumers in the region of Murcia to demonstrate their rejection of current energy policy by causing a massive blackout on December 17 and to video their blackout, on phones and tablets, and publish it on social media using the code: ‘#Apagón17D’.
