The United Left party will officially open their new headquarters in the centre of the town tomorrow, Tuesday, at midday and everyone is invited.
The new office is at 53,Calle Lavador, directly in front of the paint shop. It will be open to the public daily from 12 to 2pm and there will be a letter box where any residents can post suggestions or queries.
Ricardo Garcia Garcia, Coordinator of the IU, who won a seat and the casting vote in the last municipal elections, says the new headquarters mark a turning point for the party and will enable it to properly represent local residents.
He said the IU and Green Party were pushing the Town Hall to change “the tendency of the last few years” and approve the budget before the beginning of the new year.
For many years the IU had been asking for an Urbanisation Plan so residents know what is being planned and where and “finally this is being developed” he said.
The IU is also working towards a greater citizen participation in local politics and a radical change to the conduct of local representatives at the full Town Hall meeting. “We are making progress on both fronts,” he added.
“There is a difference between propaganda and information,” he said, “and we are hoping to advance the cause of full disclosure to all residents.”
