From February 16, 2019, there is no legal requirement
for an authenticity stamp, “apostille,” on public documents such as civil
status, birth, death and marriage certificates, residence and absence of a
criminal record.
The regulation (2016/1191) covers all 16 EU countries.
From February 16 2019 there is no requirement for the authenticity stamp, a “jurado”
translation or certified copies of these documents, when producing them for official
reasons.
The new regulation aims to cut red tape but will also reduce costs for UK
citizens when they are required to produce public documents.
The regulation introduces optional multilingual, standard forms that can be
attached to the public documents to avoid translation requirements.
