A serious fire on the wasteland between the Petrol Station and the Saints Church yesterday left most of Calasparra without electricity for several hours.
According to some reports a transformer of Ibredrola was damaged during the fire.
Two helicopters and ground fire fighters fought the blaze for over two hours as it threatened nearby houses, controlling it before it spread and damping down to prevent strong winds re-ígniting hot spots.
The Emergency Unit of the Civil Protection were first on the scene followed by the Local Police, Environmental Officers, the Forestry Fire Brigade, the Fire and Rescue Brigade and one helicopter from the regional government of Murcia and another from the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
There was a dramatic moment when the first helicopter was unable to use the water carrier and it landed so that emergency workers could try and rectify the fault. Eventually the helicopter was forced to return to base where the fault was fixed and the two helicopters were able to work together to control the blaze.
Calasparra Town Hall has expressed gratitude for to all the professionals and volunteers that participated in work to extinguish the fire.
