Calasparra Town Hall has presented the new addition to the local police: IKAa police dog especially trained to detect drugs.
IKA will join the Local Police as part of the force and has been trained principally to prevent the trafficking and use of drugs in crowded areas and anywhere where problems associated with the use and sale of drugs has been identified.

The new Dog Unit IK-9 is a division of the Local Police in Calasparra created to reinforce security, improve detection and form close links with the community.
IKA is a dogs especially selected and trained in modern techniques based on positive reinforcement that guarantees balanced and efficient behaviour. IKA has been trained to the mark denominated «lapa» and is able to indicate the exact location of any drugs.
She is three and a half years old and a «Spanish Water Dog,» one of the breeds principally usaed for the detection of drugs.
Her handler is Agent Pedro and they have trained together at one of the best national police training establishments.
