The annual homage to women this year recognised those who lived in a difficult era with unbelievable inequalities and before women had the right to vote.
The Head of the local Department of Equality, Mari Carmen López Alba, and the OAPs Club publicly recognized two women, now in their 80´s, María Ramona García López y Esperanza García Guirao, who lived in an era when Franco suppressed the right to vote, when the age of majority for women was 25 years; when women were unable to work, obtain a passport, a bank account or manage their own money without the permission of their husbands.
“Their role was reduced to being wives and mothers but they never gave up on fighting for their rights,” said Lopez Alba.
María Ramona García López and Esperanza García Guirao received a plaque and a bouquet of flowers.
