The local rice cooperative, which was founded in 1962, celebrates its 50th anniversary this week by launching a special recipe book and by having a street named after it.
Some 700 members have passed through the Cooperativa del Campo Virgen de la Esperanza during its history and today it has 160 active members.
The founders were Manuel Moya Haro, el Zoco; José Sánchez Fernández, el Nene; Paco Pérez Mayo; José Soler Gomariz and José Hernández López.
Events to celebrate the anniversary include the inauguration of a street named “Cooperativa del Campo Virgen de la Esperanza” on September 29 at 12.30 midday.
Later at 1pm there will be an Act of Homage and Recognition in the Municpal Auditorium when a recipe book, “Sabor de la tierra, 50 recetas para recordar” (Flavour of the Earth, 50 Recipes to Remember) compiled by Conchi Montoya Hernández and Francisca Gil Montoya, will be launched. At 2.30pm there will be a Members Lunch
