Four extra mobile radar speed traps, in addition to the 16 normally operational on the region´s roads, will form part of this week´s special campaign to control the speed of vehicles on national roads.
The Director General of Traffic has announced that this week, ending on Sunday, some 25,000 vehicles will be subject to the controls. He points out that excess speed was a factor in a third of road accidents in the region last year.
In a similar campaign last year some 1.95% of drivers subject to the controls were charged with speeding offences compared to 2.27% the year before.
