Associations, neighbourhood groups and members of the public, especially children, filled the Saints Church with flowers on Sunday to celebrate the first major event of the local fiestas.
After a special mass the Kings and Queens of the Garden were elected for their year long reign over Calasparra. The junior monarchs were named as Francisco Marín Gil and Ana Martínez Moreno; and the adults as Juan Egea Navarro and Maria Polonia Ruiz Egea.
Before the mass there was a procession in full traditional costume of the garden of Murcia.
