Just when we thought we had got away with a mild winter February comes along and beings winter with it!
All over Spain motorways are closed to all traffic; some are closed to just heavy traffic; and Madrid airport closed yesterday, Monday, for incoming and outcoming flights.
Chains are required on most roads in central and north Spain and there are, reportedly, problems at Alicante airport.
Calasparra, with its own little ecosystem, has escaped the worst so far. However, Caravaca, Moratalla, Bullas have road closures due to heavy snow. Entrances to the Sierra Espuña are also closed.
So readers who are venturing out of Calasparra should check weather reports before travelling as several «snow tourists» have had to be rescued by the Guardia Civil.
Will it snow in Calasparra? It rarely does but we are facing a cold, cold February, according to the Met Office, so you never know!!!
