EXHIBITION OF PHOTOS STOLEN FROM MAUTHAUSEN

The fact that true life is more horrific than fiction will be amply illustrated in a new exhibition of photos of the nazi camp in Mauthausen.
The exhibition, “The Photographer of Horror,”
in the Exhibition Hall in Calle Mayor features the history of Francisco Boix and the photos he stole from SS Mautthausen, by the historian Benito Bermejo.
Franscisco Boix (Barcelona 1920-Paris 1951) was famously a witness at Nuermberg in 1946, where he was interrogated about his experiences in the camp at Mauthausen. He was able to produce graphic documents of the SS which demonstrated the realities of the camp.
Boix worked for years in a photographic laboratory of Mauthausen with the help of other prisoners of the camp to save these images from destruction.
The exhibition traces, through photos, his life in Barcelona during the 30´s until his death in Paris at the age of 30.
The exhibition opens on Friday May 17 and runs until May 29.
