Yesterday, during a visit from the Head of Agriculture and Water at CARM, the receipt of European funds for the D.O. (Denominacion de Origin) Calasparra Rice was announced, which will see production increased by 25%; improved quality; and a 50% saving in fertilizers.
The visit coincided with the sowing of the new rice crop.
During the visit the need for more support for local agriculture was underlined as well as the construction of a bridge at Esparragal needed by local farmers.
Support for the Tajo-Segura water transfer was also emphasised.
The Ministry of Culture, with Calasparra Town Hall, has begun a study to document all the details of cultivation in the municipal area.
