Any airline passenger arriving at their destination with “significant delay” may be entitled to up to 600 euros compensation, the European Court of Justice has ruled.
Compensation for delays are by the EU and travellers have the option to claim up to 250 euros for short flights (less than 1,500k) that are cancelled or delayed and up to 600 euros for longer flights.
The exception is if passengers are informed of change in good time or offered reasonable alternatives to continue their journey.
This decision only applies to flights which originate in the EU but takes effect no matter which airline is used or how the ticket is booked.
