EMERGENCY SERVICES ADVISE CARE IN THE HEAT

As temperatures rise this week, in what could be the last heatwave of the summer, the regional emergency services are warning residents to take precautions in the heat.
The standard advice is to drink plenty of liquids and avoid alcohol; eat light meals and wear loose, light clothing; use sunscreens, sunglasses and hats; and avoid exercise or exposure to the sun around lunchtime and in the afternoons.
If you are going to take a walk please take into account the time of your return trip as temperaturas are likely to reach the high 30´s today and exercise and exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day can be extremely dangerous.
As the heat rises so does the number of people, particularly the elderly and children, who are admitted to hospital with heat related conditions.
We are in Calasparra so the sun will shine tomorrow, and the next day and so on. Please remember to stay in the shade, stay cool, stay safe and take your exercise in the early hours or late evening.
