Local teachers, parents, students and “anyone interested in the future of their children” are expected to attend a mass demonstration outside the Town Hall building in the Plaza de la Corredera tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.
At lunchtime today there were protests in all the local schools after which information leaflets were distributed around the town and placards prepared for a week of protests.
The theme of the demonstrations, which includes plans for a general strike on May 22, is: “Less Cuts for Education”. The protestors claim that reductions in the number of teaching staff, increased class sizes and a major hike in the cost of an university education mean “dark days in the future for education.”
Protest activities during the week include forming a “human chain” around the education centres of Calasparra.
