CONVENIENCE SHOPS MAY SELL TOBACCO FROM TODAY

All convenience shops, and not just those situated in petrol stations, will be allowed to sell tobacco and cigarettes from today, Wednesday,
Due to the “Tobacco Law” introduced in January sales in shops in petrol stations, the only convenience shops allowed to sell tobacco, have increased by 13%. The Government has introduced this new statute to iron out the discriminatory effect of the January law won other commercial establishments.
The law defines “convenience shops” as commercial establishments of 500 square metres or less, which are open to the public for at least 18 hours a day and that sell a mix of books, newspapers, food items, videos, toys, gifts and similar articles.
The shops will only be able to sell cigarettes in vending machines.
