BOSS OF COFRUSA TO FACE FRAUD CHARGES

The Murcian business magnate, Joaquín Navarro Salinas, the principal owner of Cofrusa, which owns the troubled Diosa plant in Calasparra, will appear in court charged with fraud and misappropriation of public funds, false accounting against the Social Security and “punishable” insolvency amongst others.
The charges are in connection with the purchase of the Halcon Group in 2009 which owned Halcon Foods in Calasparra (known as Diosa) and Conservas Fernandez in Campos del Rio.
The Institute of Promotion, an organization dependent on the regional government of Murcia, and the union, UGT, have accused the magnate of fraudulently obtaining 28.5 million euros guarantee in order to secure a 35.580.000 loan which was destined to purchase and refloat industrial activity at the two conserve factories and maintain 550 employment posts.
The two conserve plants remain closed and many of the workers still have not received their redundancy payments.
