CONTROVERSY AT THE SEPTEMBER FIESTAS

The annual bull fighting festivals, the Espiga de Oro, held in honour of Our Lady of Hope at the local Sanctuary, will take place from September 3 to 8.
The management of the bull ring will present the protagonists of the fiestas tomorrow in Murcia.
Meanwhile, in Calasparra, the local taurian association, El Quite, has withdrawn support for the September fiestas and is refusing to sell entrance tickets for the bull fights. The move follows the “debacle” during the fiestas for the local patron saints when two well known matadors withdrew at the last minute.
Among other things El Quite is accusing the management of the bull ring of “mismanagement.”
The September fiestas include the traditional pilgrimage to the local sanctuary on the night of September 7.
The Association Band of Music will hold a concert in their Summer Programme this Sunday night in the Cine Rosales at 9pm. Entrance is free of charge.
At the end of the month an art exhibition of local landscapes from the University of Murcia will arrive in Calasparra. Watch this space for more details of the inauguration and opening times.
