The move to name a judicial adminstrator for the companies Mediterra Alimentación, Halcón Foods and Conservas Hernández of Calasparra has been heralded as a positive one which may open the door to another company buying the business.
The Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro, and his Deputy, Josë Vélez, attended a meeting at the Department of Industry, Business and Innovation, last week when it was announced that the current owner, Joaquín Navarro Salinas, who is currently awaiting trial, would no longer be responsible for the adminstration of the businesses.
The Mayor of Calasparra says although there is no buyer on the horizon the Judicial Administator will look to sell the factory to a new business which would create jobs in Calasparra. He addded that he would be seeking a meeting with the adminstrator to secure funds for the salaries and severance pay owed to the former workers.
In November 2008 Conservas Fernandez issued redundancy notices to the whole workforce in Calasparra, some 311 workers, 34 full time and 277 part time, but the workers did not receive any payments.
