CALASPARRA´S PIANO RESTORED TO GLORY

The Schimmel piano in the Municipal Auditorium, gifted to the town by the regional government in 1982, has been restored to its former splendour through a delicate and arduous restoration.
On Saturday the instrument was played again by the piano teacher at the local Music School, Yanira Carrillo Puerta, and the technical director of the company which restored it, William Valencia, explained the technical process.
The Head of the Department of Culture, Cristina Trujillo, has declared it is «memorable» to have a working piano again in Calasparra. She said the Town Hall had considered buying a new one but as this would have cost in the range of 20,000 euros so they opted for the 4,000 euros restoration.
The next concert is likely to be on December 29 when Fernando Gómez will repeat the performance he recently gave in Naples.
