The reduction in full time paid representatives at the Town Hall will save upwards of 136,000 euros a year in public funds, according to the Partido Popular.
At a press conference following the full meeting of the Town Hall last week the opposition party referred to the “negotiations” between the three parties to try and reach an agreement on reducing expenditure before the full Town Hall meeting. In the event, it was the motion by the Partido Popular, supported by the Izquierda Unida (United Left and Greens), for just two full time paid heads of departments, including the Mayor, which passed.
The PSOE had proposed three full time members “in order to provide services to the public and manage the Town Hall” but this motion was defeated.
The Mayor, who will take up a post as representative of the North Eat Murcia on the regional government, renounced his salary at a press conference before the meeting of the Town Hall.
The current constitution of the Town Hall and the representatives responsible for the individual departments are as follows:-
