The legal challenges brought by ADIVAS, the group which opposes the modernisation of the agricultural irrigation systems in Calasparra, have failed as a Court rules in favour of the local Farmers Association (Comunidad Regantes Argos).
The opposition had claimed that the vote, which allows a two tier system with those farmers and smallholders able to choose the system they prefer, was ilegal. However, the Court disagreed and has ruled that the vote was legal and binding.
Presumably this now gives the green light for work to begin on the pressurised drop irrigation system for those who have voted in favour and signed the agreement. The other group will continue to use the old system of irrigation canals.
