CALASPARRA VOTES LEFT, REGION VOTES EXTREME RIGHT

The residents of Calasparra delivered an overwhelming vote of confidence in the PSOE (Socialist) party in the General Elections held yesterday but the extreme right wing group, VOX, swept to victory in the Murcia region.
The elections were for representatives of Congress (more or less equivalent to our Commons) and the Senate (upper house). The PSOE lost three seats but won the elections with 120 seats. The Partido Popular won 88 seats (22 more than in April); VOX won 52 seats (22 more than April); United Podemos 35, losing seven.
Voter participation was six percent less than in April.
In order to form a government a party or coalition needs 175 seats. As Pedro Sanchez has just 120 seats a coalition is inevitable.
In Calasparra the PSOE received 43.54% of votes; the PP 22.34% and VOX 15.43%. United Podemos won 13.09% and Mas Pais 1.26%.
The great loser nationally, regionally and locally was Ciudadanos: locally they polled just 6.23% of votes and nationally they lost 47 seats in Congress.
The PSOE also won in Bullas (39.73%); Cehegin (29.04%; and Moratalla (41%).
But the extreme right wing party, VOX, won in 16 municipal areas in the Murcia region, including Cartagena, gaining 28% of votes regionally and winning the region.
Sanchez (PSOE) called the elections after failing to agree a coalition with other left wing groups including United Podemos. Instead of gaining a majority the PSOE has lost three seats in the Congress and lost control of the Senate. Moreover, the Partido Popular has recovered 22 seats they lost in April, probably due in part to the catastrophic fall of Ciudadanos, and the extreme right have made a political killing.
