More than 200 competitors braved the elements in Calasparra last weekend to take part in the 6th Regional Orienteering Trials.
Despite the wind and the rain members of orienteering clubs from all over the region took part in the trials which carry points for regional ranking.
The local Orienteering Club already counts on prominent atheletes in the sport which include:-
Iván Montoya, regional under 18 champion; league leader this year after five trials; and junior school champion 2013.
Samuel Torrente, Regional League Under 16’s Champion 2013 after five trials and Cadet School Champion 2013.
Sergio Montoya, Regional Under 12’s champion 2012; first in the 2013 league after five trials; and third in Infant School category.
Ana Rosa Poveda, Runner-Up in Regional Womens Over 35’s 2012; Second in League of Womens’ Elite after five trials; and Winner of the sprint in the International Costa Calida Trophy. She will take part in the World Orienteering Trials.
During Easter week both Iván and Ana Rosa will participate in the National Orienteering Trials in Toledo.
