CALASPARRA LEFT WITHOUT A MAYOR AND FULL TIME COUNCILLORS

Due to legal action taken by the opposition parties in Calasparra, reported on this webpage in various news ítems, the salaries and expenses of the local Government team have been frozen.
Here is a full translation of a statement made today by the Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez:

“Recently, and, at the request of Miguel Martinez Alcázar, Asunción Escavy Peña and María Marín Salinas, members of the Municipal Partido Popular, the Court of Administrative Litigation No. 8 of Murcia, has anulled the agreement of the Full Town Halll Meeting, which this Town Hall adopted, in June of this year, to regulate the payment of the Mayor and the full time councillors, as well as to approve the allowances for the municipal groups which make up the corporation.

The first thing to make clear is the this judicial ruling is being appealed because we are confident that the Agreement of the Full Town Hall Council was adopted correctly.

Notwithstanding this, we cannot ignore that, while the appeal takes its course, the Town Hall of Calasparra does not have in place an economic regime for its councillors and for the municipal groups.

For this reason, the Municipal Groups that form the local government team, that is the PSOE and  IU-Ganar Calasparra, wish to state that, not only are we going to comply with this judicial ruling, of course, but that we are going to do so in an absolutely scrupulous manner.

A little more than a year ago we held the municipal elections in which the PSOE gained 48% of the vote, some 30 points more than any one of the opposition parties. At this stage of the legislature, this result has not been taken into consideration by any of them.

And we say this is because, it seems, that the total political activity of some people is just take things to court. Not that we are against the justice system, but we think it would be much more useful if they made proposals for the town rather than indulging in unnecessary litigation. But, for the misfortune of the town, all they do is destroy the proposals that this Government group presents, without offering any choherent alternative.
In July, 2015, the municipal groups of the PSOE of Calasparra and lU-Ganar Calasparra, which in coalition form the Government team of Calasparra Town Hall, presented a proposal at the Full Town Hall Council Meeting, to agree the payment of full time councillors and the allowances for the municipal groups. The PP of Calasparra did not propose anything, in fact, they didn´t even attend the meeting. Rather,  they challenged our proposal because they said we did not give them 48 hours notice of it. This is very surprising if we take into account that the PP of Calasparra, in the previous legislature, failed to comply with this same deadline, when the salaries of the councillors of the Socialist Municipal Group were lowered in an identical act at the Full Town Hall Council Meeting, as well as failing to comply with the said deadline at the time they presented to the Town Hall the proposal of the PP group for the nomination of representatives for the collegial body as well as for the creation of the Information Commissions.

Well then, we have already appealed the sentence of the Superior Tribunal of Murcia once while the PP continued to make no proposals. What they did do was legally challenge the Agreement of the Full Town Hall Council Meeting, which was approved by the Government team, and even though we disagree with the legal decision, the truth is the court have, once again,  anulled the decision of the meeting.

For the momento there will not be a new proposal for an agreement at the Full Town Hall Council Meeting. There have to be limits. But we cannot accept that, while some of us work and try to achieve the best for the town of Calasparra, the rest of them are set on destruction without proposing any reasonable alternative.

Thanks to the PP of Calasparra, the Town Hall is left without a mayor and without full time councillors. We are going to return to our normal occupations while we wait for the decision
of the Superior Tribunal of Justice on our appeal. And, although we are worried about this situation, caused by the Partido Popular of Calasparra and their accomplices in the opposition,
we are committed to continue working for and in the interests of Calasparra, even though it is obvious that without our exclusive dedication the time that we are able to dedicate to the town will be very much less and so we will not be able to give the business of the town and the residents the attention they deserve.

In conclusión,  this is a regrettable situation brought about by the Partido Popular of Calasparra. In our opinión the only thing they are set on is to destroy and personally damage the members of the Government team, however,  unfortunately, what they are really doing is prejudicing and really damaging the town of Calasparra.

Jose Velez, Mayor of Calasparra.
