The fire in the Casa Escamez area of Moratalla yesterday, very close to Calasparra, was extinguished in two hours by more than 80 fire officers on the ground and air support from the regional Forest Fire Plan (Plan Infomur).
The emergency services received various calls at 5.30pm yesterday, Sunday, reporting a fire, which originated in a corn fields but had spread to the surrounding countryside by high winds.
Calasparra Fire Brigade was one of several called to assist with the blaze and local councillors, Antonio Merino and Juan Bernal, accompanied the Mayor of Moratalla, Jesus Amo, at the site of the fire.
Ibredrola were informed of the fire and cut off the supply to high intensity cables in the area.
The fire was reported to be fully extinguished by 8pm.
