Following massive losses to the local public purse over the past two years the Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, has announced that prívate business will foot the bill for this year´s fiestas.
According to the Mayor the Town Hall will cover the cost of the animals which should be paid for by advertisers.
“If we increase the advertising by 10% on last year the fiestas will carry a zero cost for the town,” the Mayor told listeners of Radio Calasparra.
“There will be bull fighting fiestas and there is a businessman, Pedro Chicote, who is putting up the money,” he added.
The current Taurean Commission will be replaced by a Working Group made up of representatives of the various Taurean associations, political parties, fans and others.
“This is not a consultative Working Party but a group which will work to ensure that the organisation and management achieves the best for the fiestas.”
The Mayor indicated that the number of bull runs and fights in September will be maintained at six and there will be a bull fight on the Day of the Local Patron Saints.
