Although there will be a three day medieval market and a medieval supper in full costume there will no horseback parade nor theatrical reenactment to mark the donation of Calasparra to the order of San Juan of Jerusalem.
The medieval market will be officially opened at 8pm on Friday and will be open from 10am to 10pm over the weekend. There will be street theatre, story telling for children, music, donkey rides and 40 artisan or gastronomic stalls.
On Friday night the medieval supper, catered by the Sanctuary restaurant, will follow a short procession of participants in full medieval costume. Tickets cost 22€ and medieval costume and obligatory.
On Saturday at 11am there will be a special Urban Walk taking in all the museums including the ruins at Villa Vieja. Sign on at the Tourist Office.
The keys of Calasparra will be presented to candidates selected for their contribution to the town (See previous article). The ceremony will take place in the Sala de Actos at the Town Hall at 8pm on Saturday.
Nearly 20 local bars and restaurants will take part in the 4th Ruta Gastronomica offering beer and tapas for 2€. See the official programme for the list of participants.
Disappointingly there will be no horseback parade, the traditional highlight of the fiestas, nor the annual theatrical reenactment of the actual donation of the keys of Calasparra this year due to the financial crisis.
