ARCHEOLOGICAL DIG ON THE HILL NEAR THE SANCTUARY

Calasparra Town Hall and the University of Valencia will carry out an archeological excavation on the hill near the Sanctuary, popularly known as the Cerro de la Virgin, from July 1 to 31.
The dig will be directed by Dr David Martinez Chico of the University of Valencia (author of the photo with this article). He will also give a lecture this evening, Saturday, in the Casa de la Cultura at 8pm.
The Cerro de la Virgin had been catalogued scientifically since 1970 as argaric (bronze age) and Iberic. However, a prospection in 2021 contradicts these findings and dates the site back to V-VII AD.
