Every year during June Calasparra commemorates medieval times when the town of Calasparra was donated to the religious order of St John of Jerusalem during the wars against the occupying Arabs.
Before the crisis there were theatrical enactments and a nocturnal procession with horses and medieval costumes. This year the celebrations are a little more muted but the traditional events will go ahead such as medieval market, the medieval dinner and the cermony to hand over the keys of the town.
New this year is the nocturnal walk around the old town and the castle organised by the Tourist Office.
