Calasparra will have a new 640,000 euro Forest Defence Centre with 10 environmental officers; 22 firefighters; and nine full time vigilantes, the Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, announced today.
Visiting the existing Forest Defence Building, near the Municipal Services Buildings, she was accompanied by the Head of the regional department of Water, Agriculture, Stock breeding , Fish and the Environment, Antonio Luengo; the head of the local Department of the Environment; and the architect and various technical staff.
The project will be funded by the EU FEADER fund and will be put out to tender next week.
The centre will complete the network of infrastructures which support enviromental officers and the prevention and defence against forest fires. It will house the office of the Head of the North West Murcia Environmental Officers and provide a base for the fire brigade, with nine new specialists in extinction and five environmental officers assigned.
It will be a centre for the management and custody of territory, forests and for fighting forest fires in North West Murcia.
The building will have on two floors covering 320 square metres with a citizens attention office, a meeting room, a training room, a rest room, toilets, changing rooms, a kitchen and a dining room.
The Forest Defence Centres are official infrastructures from which the defence of the natural patrimony of the Murcia region is coordinated, and in particular the fight against forest fires and, when required, providing support for other work such as the control of plagues and the custody of the environmmental officers ´ territory.
