After the marching band woke anyone who wasn´t already awake on Saturday morning, the statues of the patron saints of Calasparra, Abdon and Senen, made their final appearance at the traditional procession which brings a week of fiestas to a close.
Many Calasparrians would already have been awake at the crack of dawn on Saturday, either because they were partying at the concert with three live bands in the Saints Square, or because the music kept them awake until the early hours of the morning.
The traditional “Diana” played by the marching band around the streets calls the residents to a mass followed by a light hearted procession with the two protaganists of the week.
Fiesta week has been full of music, with two live concerts, and tradition, with migas night and the two competitions, rice and grape throwing.
For anyone who doesn´t already know the two saints were thieves who were caught robbing the local harvest and were killed by angry residents. Following their deaths the residents repented and the two thieves became the “saints of the harvest.”
