The Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, has met local banks and financial institutions and proposed that empty properties are made available to the homeless at a social rent.
Announcing that the proprosal had been “well received” he told Radio Calasparra listeners that Social Services would identify families who qualified for the scheme, which would be a result of an agreement between the Town Hall and the local financial institution. The “social rent” would be agreed between the financial institution and the prospective tenant.
The scheme is aimed to provide homes for local families in precarious financial circumstances and, at the same time, provide an opportunity for empty properties in the town.
